I took my daughter to the park recently and the place was packed. It was a nice sunny day. I think everyone was tired of winter and they were sick of being trapped in their homes because of the cold so it made sense to be outside. Although it was a nice day, I think my daughter forgot how to run since she hadn't been outside in awhile. We were kicking a soccer ball in a wide-open field and it was like a sniper was in a tree because she fell for no reason. When she fell her knee somehow punched her in the face and busted her lip. I don’t even know how that is possible! Later she tripped on steps to the slide and got a splinter and as were leaving got blind-sided by a child swinging. I am shocked she is not YouTube famous.
When someone messes up in our society today it becomes public knowledge quickly. You can see it on TMZ, Twitter or just scroll through your Facebook News Feed. People are so quick to comment or share someones struggle or failure with the click of a button. Aren’t you glad that God doesn’t do that with us? Aren’t you thankful that the angels aren’t gossiping about all the dirty thoughts and words you had before reading this devotion? Aren't you thankful that God doesn’t put your sin on blast through loudspeakers like we do with social media?
Being fallen hurts, but being forgiven is liberating. Notice the praise that pours out of John in Revelation 19 when he fully understands that Jesus wins! You can almost see and hear the celebration from heaven when they comprehend that in the end Jesus has overcome.
Prayer: God the depths of my fallen state are bigger and deeper than I can imagine, but I am thankful that in the end love wins. May I live in the tension of humility and victory and may I fully grasp and accept both. Thank you for the gift of grace and life and may I be a picture of that in my fallen state. Amen.
The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt, and their ways are vile;
there is no one who does good.
God looks down from heaven
on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God.
Everyone has turned away, all have become corrupt;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.
Do all these evildoers know nothing?
They devour my people as though eating bread;
they never call on God.
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
where there was nothing to dread.
God scattered the bones of those who attacked you;
you put them to shame, for God despised them.
Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When God restores his people,
let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting:
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
for true and just are his judgments.
He has condemned the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
And again they shouted:
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”
The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:
Then a voice came from the throne, saying:
“Praise our God,
all you his servants,
you who fear him,
both great and small!”
Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean,
was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)
